GPBN Set To Embark On Walk Against Suicide

As part of efforts to checkmate the rising spate of cases of suicide in Nigerians, the Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria (GPBN) in collaboration with ActionAid Nigeria and Lagos State Mediation Centre , an agency under the Lagos State Ministry of Justice is set to embark on a sensitization campaign walk tagged WALK AGAINST SUICIDE (#WAS ).
This was disclosed by the President of the Association, Mr. Chris Kehinde Nwandu (CKN) during a press conference held in Lagos during the week
According to him, suicidal tendency is on the increase today due to the prevailing socio-economic problem in Nigeria, which has brought some level of frustration to the people. Also, the collapse of the communal extended family structures, which often served as a strong support system for Nigerians have been eroded by the struggle for survival
Nwandu noted that “ Instances of abuse, poverty, relationships gone soar and academic frustration have also been identified as some of the factors leading to suicides in recent times.”
While chiding religious leaders as well as those in government circles for having shied away from their responsibilities to the people in this regard, the Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria (GPBN) advocates that immediate attention should be drawn towards this increasing rate of the scourge, with a view to helping people find solution.
“The Objectives of Walk Against Suicide (#WAS),which holds on Tuesday 25th June 2019 in Lagos are
• Bring attention of government to the rising cases of suicide
• Create awareness that suicide is not the best option to any problem.
• Give hopes to those in need
• Bring back the communal life for which Nigerians are known for.
• Create an avenue for counseling for those under severe depression

Nwandu said, the convoy will march from Ikeja Bus Stop and terminate at the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa starting from 8am
